NAD+ Review for Senior Dogs: Boosting Health and Vitality

Ozzy Fitoria

As our canine companions enter their golden years, it's natural to seek ways to support their health and vitality. One supplement gaining attention is NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). This review NAD for senior dogs will explore the potential benefits of NAD+ for aging dogs, examining its role in cellular health, energy levels, and overall well-being. We'll delve into the science behind NAD+, potential side effects, and how it might help your senior dog live a happier, healthier life. NAD+ falls with age in multiple tissues studied in rodents, and in blood in humans. No canine aging study has been published, so the same cannot be said from direct dog data. Supplementing with NAD+ precursors aims to replenish these levels and promote healthy aging.

LongTails' NAD+ Precursor supplement supports cellular health and vitality.

What is NAD+ and Why is it Important for Senior Dogs?

NAD+ is a crucial coenzyme found in every cell of a dog's body. It plays a vital role in numerous biological processes, including:

  • Energy Production: NAD+ is essential for converting nutrients into cellular energy, powering all bodily functions.
  • DNA Repair: It helps repair damaged DNA, which is crucial for maintaining genomic stability and preventing age-related diseases.
  • Cell Signaling: NAD+ participates in cell signaling pathways, influencing processes like inflammation, stress response, and cell survival.
  • Mitochondrial Function: It supports healthy mitochondrial function, the powerhouses of the cells.

NAD+ falls with age in multiple tissues studied in rodents, and in blood in humans. No canine aging study has been published, so the same cannot be said from direct dog data. This decline can contribute to various age-related issues, such as decreased energy levels, cognitive decline, weakened immune function, and increased susceptibility to diseases. Supplementing with NAD+ precursors, like nicotinamide riboside (NR) or nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), may help replenish NAD+ levels and support healthy aging in senior dogs. Maintaining optimal NAD+ levels can help support cellular energy and overall vitality.

Potential Benefits of NAD+ Supplementation for Senior Dogs

While research on NAD+ supplementation in dogs is still emerging, preliminary studies and anecdotal evidence suggest several potential benefits for senior dogs:

  • Increased Energy Levels: By boosting cellular energy production, NAD+ may help combat fatigue and improve overall activity levels in senior dogs.
  • Cellular Energy: No published canine study shows an NAD+ precursor improving cognition, and the human trials that measured it were null, so the supported mechanism is cellular energy and DNA repair rather than a brain benefit. Neuronal activity.
  • Cellular Energy: NAD+ is required by the mitochondria to convert food into usable cellular energy. We do not make muscle claims for this ingredient.
  • Supports Healthy Metabolism: NAD+ supports healthy metabolism, which can aid in weight management and overall metabolic health.
  • Supports a Healthy Immune System: By supporting cellular function, NAD+ may help maintain a healthy immune system in senior dogs.

It's important to note that these potential benefits are based on ongoing research and observations. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and determine the optimal dosage and long-term effects of NAD+ supplementation in dogs. Many pet owners are seeking ways to support their senior dogs' health, and NAD+ is becoming a topic of interest.

Safety and Dosage Considerations

While NAD+ precursors are generally considered safe for dogs, it's crucial to consult with your veterinarian before starting any new supplement regimen. Your veterinarian can assess your dog's individual health status, potential drug interactions, and the appropriate dosage. The proper dosage of NAD+ precursors for dogs can vary depending on factors such as weight, age, and overall health. Always follow your veterinarian's recommendations and the product label instructions.

Potential side effects of NAD+ supplementation in dogs are rare but may include mild gastrointestinal upset, such as nausea or diarrhea. If you notice any adverse reactions, discontinue use and consult with your veterinarian. It's also important to choose a high-quality NAD+ supplement from a reputable manufacturer to ensure purity and potency. Look for products that have been third-party tested for quality and safety. You can review NAD for senior dogs products by checking for third-party testing, cGMP manufacturing and a printed per-ingredient dose.

How to Choose the Right NAD+ Supplement for Your Senior Dog

With the growing popularity of NAD+ supplements, it's essential to choose a product that is safe, effective, and appropriate for your senior dog. Here are some factors to consider:

  • Form of NAD+ Precursor: NAD+ precursors like NR and NMN are commonly used in supplements. Research suggests that both NR and NMN can effectively increase NAD+ levels.
  • Quality and Purity: Choose a supplement from a reputable manufacturer that uses high-quality ingredients and has been third-party tested for purity and potency.
  • Dosage: Follow your veterinarian's recommendations and the product label instructions for the appropriate dosage.
  • Ingredients: Check the ingredient list for any potential allergens or additives that may be harmful to your dog.
  • Reviews and Reputation: Read reviews from other pet owners and research the manufacturer's reputation before making a purchase.

By carefully considering these factors, you can choose an NAD+ supplement that is safe, effective, and beneficial for your senior dog's health and well-being. Supporting your dog's cellular energy is a great way to promote healthy aging.

Not sure who loves it more!

I have the 3 pickiest dog eaters ever and I usually have to get more clever than I want to when trying to get any of them to take a supplement. They needed no convincing with this, they loved it and got so excited when they heard me open the container! I got 1 container and was mostly giving it to my 5 yr old Rhodesian Ridgeback but then also started my Dutch Shepherd on it because he injured his knee playing. We started on a second container and that's when I noticed the changes. I am a skeptic through and through I'm science driven and don't believe anything until I'm convinced with evidence and supporting real life examples and let me tell you.. I'm convinced my Rhodesian doesn't nap as much wants to play ball like he did when he was a puppy and just seems to be over all waggier and smileier! It's wild, we are out of the supplement for now and the benefits seem to remain even though I haven't given it to him in over 2 weeks! The injury my Dutch Shepherd sustained was to a knee ligament and I was told that 6 weeks or more with zero activity would be a quick recovery. Anyone with a Dutch shep knows that there is no such thing as zero activity and both he and I were about to go crazy while limiting, as best I could, playing ball. I would say at best .. we mostly limited vigorous activity for a few weeks but still were active and then slowly added back some fetch and longer walks. With the addition of NAD+ i am quite confident we are where we are now because of it! I can…

    Can’t get enough!

We began using this product about 2 months ago. Everyday she looks forward to her dinner bowl full of longtails goodness! Truthfully, she would eat the entire jar in one sitting if I let her. I’ve noticed her go from lounging around the house to a spry and alert pup. Her mood seems to have changed and she is now roughing and tumbling with her adopted bro, as they did when he was a pup. Thank god for long tails, she needs the energy to keep up with the various little people seeking her attention on the daily. I am so grateful to have found this product.
