Dogue de Bordeaux Lifespan: Health and Longevity Guide

Dogue de Bordeaux Lifespan: Health and Longevity Guide

Ozzy Fitoria

Let's talk about something serious that every Dogue de Bordeaux owner thinks about: how long can our massive, drooly friends actually stick around? If you're wondering about the longevity of these incredible gentle giants, you're in the right place.

How Long Do Dogue de Bordeaux Actually Live?

The truth about Dogue de Bordeaux longevity might surprise you. Unlike many dog breeds that live 10-12 years, these massive French mastiffs typically have a shorter lifespan, averaging between 5-8 years. But don't panic – with the right care, you can potentially extend and optimize their health journey.

Genetic Factors That Impact Their Lifespan

These big boys come with some genetic challenges that directly influence their longevity:

  • Hip Dysplasia: A common issue that can limit mobility and quality of life
  • Heart Diseases: Particularly aortic stenosis and tricuspid valve issues
  • Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV): A potentially life-threatening condition
  • Brachycephalic Challenges: Their adorable smooshed face comes with respiratory complications

Leading Health Challenges for Dogue de Bordeaux

Understanding these health issues is crucial for proactive care. Heart diseases and GDV are the top culprits that can shorten their lifespan. Early detection and management are key.

Extending Your Dogue de Bordeaux's Life: Practical Strategies

Want to give your massive buddy the best shot at a longer, healthier life? Here's how:

Most Popular

LongTails NAD+ Precursor — the supplement behind this research. One scoop. Every ingredient your dog needs for healthy aging.

See the formula →
  1. Nutrition Matters: Feed high-quality, age-appropriate diets
  2. Regular Exercise: Keep them active but avoid over-stressing joints
  3. Weight Management: Obesity accelerates health problems
  4. Regular Vet Checkups: Catch potential issues early

Cellular Health Support

Speaking of extending life, I'm a big fan of proactive cellular support. Supplements like NAD+ Precursors can help support your dog's vitality at the cellular level, potentially supporting healthy aging.

When Are They Considered Seniors?

For Dogue de Bordeaux, "senior" comes earlier than most breeds. Around 5-7 years old, they start transitioning into their golden years. Watch for signs like:

  • Reduced energy levels
  • Slower movement
  • Less enthusiasm for play
  • Potential weight gain

Mental Well-being Matters Too

It's not just physical health. Keep them mentally stimulated with:

  • Gentle training sessions
  • Short, fun games
  • Consistent social interaction
  • Stress-free environment

Myth-Busting: Color and Gender

Quick facts: Neither coat color nor gender significantly impact a Dogue de Bordeaux's lifespan. It's all about care, genetics, and lifestyle.

Final Thoughts on Dogue de Bordeaux Longevity

While their lifespan might seem shorter compared to other breeds, every moment with these massive, loving dogs is precious. Proactive care, love, and attention can help maximize their years and quality of life.

Remember, it's not just about adding years to their life, but adding life to their years. Stay informed, stay proactive, and cherish every drooly, massive moment with your Dogue de Bordeaux.

Not sure who loves it more!

I have the 3 pickiest dog eaters ever and I usually have to get more clever than I want to when trying to get any of them to take a supplement. They needed no convincing with this, they loved it and got so excited when they heard me open the container! I got 1 container and was mostly giving it to my 5 yr old Rhodesian Ridgeback but then also started my Dutch Shepherd on it because he injured his knee playing. We started on a second container and that's when I noticed the changes. I am a skeptic through and through I'm science driven and don't believe anything until I'm convinced with evidence and supporting real life examples and let me tell you.. I'm convinced my Rhodesian doesn't nap as much wants to play ball like he did when he was a puppy and just seems to be over all waggier and smileier! It's wild, we are out of the supplement for now and the benefits seem to remain even though I haven't given it to him in over 2 weeks! The injury my Dutch Shepherd sustained was to a knee ligament and I was told that 6 weeks or more with zero activity would be a quick recovery. Anyone with a Dutch shep knows that there is no such thing as zero activity and both he and I were about to go crazy while limiting, as best I could, playing ball. I would say at best .. we mostly limited vigorous activity for a few weeks but still were active and then slowly added back some fetch and longer walks. With the addition of NAD+ i am quite confident we are where we are now because of it! I can…

    Can’t get enough!

We began using this product about 2 months ago. Everyday she looks forward to her dinner bowl full of longtails goodness! Truthfully, she would eat the entire jar in one sitting if I let her. I’ve noticed her go from lounging around the house to a spry and alert pup. Her mood seems to have changed and she is now roughing and tumbling with her adopted bro, as they did when he was a pup. Thank god for long tails, she needs the energy to keep up with the various little people seeking her attention on the daily. I am so grateful to have found this product.

It’s normally hard to get my dogs to take a supplement, but they loved LongTails. Thank you so much for making this great supplement.
